Hiring personnel for an organization is a simple yet complicated procedure. You are in a desperate situation to hire additional employees and it so happens that you have an applicant sitting in your office that looks good - on paper. The chances are good if you're like most companies, you'll hire that applicant before you check him out thoroughly. And, even then, calling to verify past employment and doing a standard interview is not enough to tell you whether that applicant will be an asset or liability with your company. You will never know what kind of employee you've hired - until it's too late. Without some kind of systematic approach to character evaluation, the odds are in favor of adding an undesirable employee to your payroll.
